The Cavalcata Sarda, one of the most fascinating events in Sardinia, is preparing to parade through the streets of Sassari on 12 May 2024. This festival, which celebrates the beauty, culture and tradition of the island, is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the Sardinian soul.

Here's what you need to know about the Cavalcata Sarda 2024

Origins and Meaning

The first edition of the Cavalcata Sarda dates back to 1899, when it was organized on the occasion of the visit of King Umberto I and Queen Margherita of Savoy to Sassari.
This festival is the "festival of beauty", secular and different from the other two great Sardinian popular festivals: Sant'Efisio in Cagliari and the Redentore in Nuoro. The tradition may date back to the Spanish era, but since then every penultimate Sunday of May, hundreds of knights and over 2,000 people in traditional dress represent the customs of all of Sardinia.

Parade and Celebrations

On the morning of May 12th, the streets and squares of Sassari come alive with the parade of traditional clothes and horses. In the evening, the party continues with a review of traditional Sardinian songs and dances.
During the Cavalcata, over 66 folk groups, 39 associations and over two hundred musicians and dancers participate in the event.

Collateral Events
