Sardinia at Easter is extraordinarily beautiful. Sea, nature, culture, traditions, spirituality, mysteries, sports and good food.
Sardinia is almost always seen as a predominantly summer destination, but it is in spring that this mysterious island full of traditions shows its most authentic and exciting side.
During the Easter festivities you will discover unknown customs, homemade bread that you have never tasted, heartfelt processions and very special popular festivals.
During Holy Week, many towns in Sardinia organize religious events, processions and traditional activities.
Often these activities are accompanied by traditional dances and songs called Goccius or Gosos.
In Olbia, Golfo Aranci, Castelsardo and in the large Sardinian cities such as Nuoro, Alghero and Cagliari you will have the opportunity to experience a real Sardinia, rich in tradition and culture.
During Holy Week, the important "S'Incontru" rite takes place in Oliena, a pretty town surrounded by splendid nature and known for its local handicrafts: the meeting of the statues of Jesus and the statue of the Madonna in the streets of the village.
In Castelsardo, a romantic village overlooking the Gulf of Asinara, one of the most important Easter rites in Sardinia takes place: the Procession of the Mysteries. The participants meet in the Church of Santa Maria before dawn, and a long procession starts from here.
At Easter, special bread is traditionally baked in various shapes. The best known forms are: the chick, the girl, the lapwing, the fish and the baskets.
The egg is the symbol of rebirth par excellence and all loaves contain one to symbolize rebirth and tradition has it that it brings good luck.
Speaking of traditional Easter bread, the Bread Museum is located in Borore and as you pass these pieces it is nice to stop.
It allows you to learn more about the traditions of this popular food. The instruments are presented in the different rooms. Another room is dedicated to bread for daily use, a room to bread for the different stages of life and another room to bread for special occasions.
A visit particularly appreciated by the little ones, because a pastry shop inside the museum allows children to bake and decorate their own bread.
Obviously Sardinian sweets cannot be missing, the main ones at Easter are: Formaggelle (in some regions they are called Padulas or Casadinas), Mustazzolus di Oristano, Cucciuleddi di Meli, Papassini and Amaretti.
The white sandy beaches, the crystal clear sea and the rocky nature complete your holiday in Sardinia.
What's more beautiful than a walk on the beach accompanied by the spring sun and the most beautiful colors of the year?
And when the weather is nice, it's worth enjoying a little sun on the beach and, for the more sporty, a dip in the crystal clear sea with a thousand shades of emerald green.
